Website or email hacking can occur in a number of ways. Your computer system itself can be hacked and mined for personal information. Your blog or website can be compromised if a hacker obtains your password. Your email can be hacked if you click on a fraudulent link and you may not be able to retrieve your email and other information you’ve registered in your account.

Use these steps to safeguard your computer and your website or email getting hack.

  1. Use long passwords(15 characters with upper and lowercase letters, number and symbols) that can’t be guessed and don’t share them with anyone.
  2. Don’t fall for email phishing attempts. If they ask for your password, they are bogus. Don’t share your password with anyone.
  3. Don’t click on links in email that are not 100% certain of. Many phishing attempts lead you to to bogus sites that ask you to login and then steal your password when you try.
  4. Run up-to-date anti-virus and anti-spyware tools. Scan for viruses and spyware frequently
  5. Keep the operating system and other software on your machine up-to-date.
  6. Change your passwords every 1-2 month.
  7. If you’re using Free WiFi hotspots, learn to use them safely.
